Bonjour, Mon Amie!

24 novembre 2011

Well, the two presentations went pretty well today, I think. They were both pretty short, so it really wasn't a big deal anyway. I do like giving presentations. It's just a bummer the way the scheduling is working out. Heaven knows I'll enjoy my sleep when I get home!!

Anyways, Emily got here tonight!! We went to go see the Arc de Triomphe and it was so awesome. Plus, it was such a beautiful night! It was beautiful to walk around. Then, we were going to walk to the Eiffel Tower. I've done it before, plus how hard can it be? You just look where it is and follow it there, right? Well, with my sense of direction, we ended up going in the completely wrong direction. So, we decided to just take the metro. Unfortunately, the machines were working improperly and let us in when we weren't supposed to. Anyway, we got stopped and had to pay a 40 EUR fine! It was really upsetting because we hadn't done anything wrong, but part of me was kind of excited because it's the first argument I've had in French. It wasn't so great because I don't do so well with authority figures, but whatever. It's an adventure, right?! And, it helps teach us to just roll with the punches (oh gosh, so cliché I can hardly stand it) and move on. We could easily have let that ruin our night, but we made the choice not to be upset and ended up having a great rest of the night.

The Eiffel Tower was awesome. Her being there for the first time brought back memories of when I was there for the first time, and all the excitement that came with it :)

We made sure we stayed until midnight so we could see it sparkling :)

Well, tomorrow is THANKSGIVING! Even though we don't celebrate it here, I've still been thinking about gratitude lately. I find it easy to get into habits and routines and take for granted the things that come easily for me. However, I'm so grateful that I've had to opportunity to experience so many different cultures and ways of life that constantly remind me that what I'm used to isn't necessarily "normal" or "deserved." We leave for London tomorrow night, and it's sure to be a fun-filled weekend! I'll try to update the blog as much as I can, but I already know it's going to be a bit of a rough weekend, with everything going on. But, we're going to have tons of fun anyway-I just know it :D
