Milieu de la Semaine

5 octobre 2011
21h30

Well, we did take the tram to class today. It was less crowded, and the fifteen minute walk really wasn't too bad at all. As a matter of fact, it was quite scenic and mostly downhill. For that reason, I think I'll only use it to get to class, and not to get home, haha :P

There was a tunnel on our way there--it had the neatest light poles!

There were stalactites growing from the ceiling---reminds me of our tours of the caves this summer :)  :)

But the tunnel made me think more about the graffiti that seems to be ever-present here in Paris. It's so interesting because it seems as though it's no one's responsibility to clean it up. However, unlike in the states, most of it is actually quite decent and interesting!!

I'm sure this wasn't commissioned or anything! How beautiful!

Anyway, class was...well...not much better. I wish I could be more positive, but I'm having a hard time. We have a review session tomorrow afternoon after class, so I guess we'll know after then. Friday we go to a museum :)

French was just as awesome. I'm already learning so much, and many of them are subtleties...which I really enjoy. The goal is to make me sound more authentically French, I guess :)

After class we had cheese and wine tasting with our group. We went to a nearby little wine shop and had a personal event.

There were five wines to taste, and four cheeses. The gentleman who was doing the tasting was extremely informative. I never knew there was so much to know about wine! He was so enthusiastic, and his english was quite good, too! There are also a lot of different smells to wine, and you can use those, along with the colors to tell a lot about it--all without a single taste, haha. Though we were there for about three hours, I found it all very interesting. Not so bad after all. Even despite the very strange reaction I got from the gentleman. Of course, I guess I would think it was weird to attend a wine tasting but not taste the wine, haha.

All of us, ready for the wine ;)

The cheeses and bread (although I'm sure you could have surmised):

Our awesome gentleman:

After that, I did my more serious grocery shopping. Though things are more expensive, I managed to get some things for pasta, quesadillas, and their equivalent of ramen noodles :) I know, so French of me...but I guess that's what I can afford.

I'm so incredibly exhausted and the days seem to be getting longer. Tomorrow I have my first French conversation in a bar with another student attending Paris Diderot. Oh, joy. I think the weather is becoming more like it's supposed to, with the rain and whatnot. But I love the autumn!!!!
