** EDIT 22 octobre: PICTURES :)**
Well, I woke up early this morning with much trouble, but I managed to at least read over my paper. And good thing I did-it was fairly incoherent, haha. I also managed to get a bit of studying in for the final before it was time to go. I arrived in plenty of time to print my paper and two pages worth of fossils in hopes of memorizing them, their geographical and chronicle information in the thirty minutes before the final. HA. :P
I think it may have gone alright. The practical was generally alright, with the exception of a few questions and the locations of the fossils. Man, I think if in doubt, I put East Africa, haha. The written portion was a bit more straight forward, and the essay was good. Well, as good as these things can be, haha. He said we can email him in one week if we'd like to know our grade. So...we'll see if I do, haha.
But, then I went on home to get ready for my weekend trip here to Caen! I don't remember if I already blogged this, but I did break down and buy a backpack, because it's just so much more convenient for a weekend trip. Packing went well, and so far, I don't think I forgot anything!
Upon arriving at the departure train station, we had quite a time trying to find out train. There was a lot of construction going on, but we did eventually find our train and had enough time to find four seats together to begin our two hour trip to the northwest!
Yummy GINORMOUS grapes courtesy of Ariana. I've never had grapes with seeds in them before! Soooo spoiled :P
The ride was much quicker than expected, and very rural. We saw a lot of cows, haha.
Successful arrival!!
When we arrived, we tried to find the bus station, and did so extremely successfully. But, upon asking how to get to where we're going, the woman told us we had to take another system where you have to buy tickets in an automatic machine. I've learned this is never a good idea because most of the automatic ticket machines only take credit cards, and the European credit cards are "chip and pin," whereas ours are magnetic. Luckily, we were able to find where we needed to go on a very useful map.
Then came buying tickets. After figuring out which kind of ticket we needed, we discovered that though the machine indicated we could pay with coins (not bills), it wasn't letting us. We finally found a machine that let us pay, and after we combined all of our coins we successfully bought tickets. The trip to the hostel wasn't too bad, despite a minor fall ( :P ).
French houses!!! I waaaaant one :P
We got all settled in, and it's actually quite nice! We found there were only two towels...but we're only paying 8 euros per night. The light in the toilet doesn't work...but it's only eight euros a night. There's no garbage can...but it's only eight euros per night. The radiator is screwed into position so it's freezing...but...you get the gist, haha. We may or may not have four people in a triple room...but it's only eight euros a night!! I can't believe what a great deal it is!!!
Our hotel, and room:
We got sandwiches at a cute little boulangerie and brought them back here to eat. We're all pretty exhausted (none of us got very much sleep last night--but no more of that--the class is over!!), and I think we might call it a night early. We're not totally sure what we're going to do tomorrow, but it will probably involve going to visit the D-Day beaches.
My homemade candy gummies from the shop :) Delicious!
I'm so happy we got to take this little break from the city life (a vacation on vacation!!), and I think it's going to be a beautiful weekend. I'm going to try my best to stay positive and enjoy this as best I can. I'm so blessed!
